1894CS Followed Me Home
Saw an ad in the paper for this, expected it to be gone by the time I called. I was excited to find that it, in fact, was not gone, and we made the trip, first to the bank, then to the house where the gun was.

It's a Marlin 1894CS, chambered in .357 Mag. manufactured in 1984.

A 1984 1894... Tongue

This thing is BEAUTIFUL. Came with the scope (Weaver), sling, and hard case. $300.

Hopefully tomorrow I can find some .357 ammo and try it out. I'm thinking my kid will like to shoot this one as well.

Oh WOW, how'd you find that?! I like that, especially the part where you can still use the open sites... That's going to be fun. (Damnit f-ck! now I want one, gonna have to sell another motorcycle... Doh)

.357 mag is super hard to find here, you might do well to check Cabelas/ Cheaper than dirt/ Able Ammo and such. Maybe research and see if you can use .38 special also (we used to own a pistol that could shoot both). .38 sp is not that much easier to find, but we do find it sometimes. Now that said, how much you wanna sell it for... :D

Sorry, NOT for sale. Tongue The wife found it listed in the local paper. As I said, I couldn't believe it was still there when I called. Our local Gander Mountain had a fair amount of .357. I am told the .38 Special ammo will not work (won't feed).

We went out this evening and bought a box of Winchester 110 gr. ammo, just to see how it shoots. I will let you know tomorrow my impressions of this gun.

RE: 1894CS Followed Me Home
The wife, my son and I took it out in the back yard to try it out on some pop cans. I think I lost the gun to my son. This little gun is a sweetheart to shoot, and barely kicks harder than a 22. But man, does it tear up a pop can! After blasting one can with about ten holes, the next shot ripped the can in three pieces, throwing them up in the air about ten feet! I never had so much fun plinking before!

But like I said, my son is the one that really took to the gun. He's 11-years-old, and once he fired his first shot he knew it wasn't going to bite him. After that I couldn't load the gun fast enough for him. What a great gun, and now he has a love for lever action Marlins! We're doomed...

That a georgous little rifle there, but honestly, I would remove the scope and rings as it distracts from an already beautiful rifle. However, that's my opinion--and you know what they say about those. LOL
357 is a totally cool caliber for a rifle of this type. Great brush gun. Your Son is one lucky kid.
Where do you live? I need to come visit and stay awhile and try out some of your guns.

Yeh, I'm not a fan of scopes on lever action rifles myself, but you know what? This thing is spot on! The wife and kid like it, so I will let them have their fun with it for now.

I'm up in Michigan, if you're ever in the neighborhood, drop me a line and we'll go shootin'.

RE: 1894CS Followed Me Home
Went plinking at my son-in-law's house today. Here's my 11-year-old son shooting the 1894. I tell him he looks like he's going to fall over, but I really think it's because the gun is just a bit heavy for him yet. Still, he can hit pop can's about 50% of the time at about 75 yards. He's a good shot, when he takes his time.

Yes, he's a south-paw.

RE: 1894CS Followed Me Home
Yeah, I see what ya mean about your Son could fall over. I see what his problem is though. He doesn't have a "SQUARE" stand while holding and firing the rifle. With his way, if that was a 44magnum, he would have a lot of shoulder THUMP and that rifle would rise up on him and hit all the limbs on the trees. Ya need to help him out Dad, so's when he shoots, he won't get upper body injury when he gets ahold of a bigger caliber gun. Also, with a scoped rifle, he needs to know that his head needs to be closer to scope for proper alignment. Yes, you can see reticle and target in scope from the distance he's looking through scope with, but it's incorrect, in that his eye should be only about 3-4 inches from eye piece. I know that you have the see-thru rings and head has to be up off the rifle stock, but his head is canted, and back too much. I'm sure that helping him get properly square with a rifle will give him more confidence with bigger caliber rifles in the future and not be afraid. I learned this about being square to a rifle from my Father when I was learning to shoot(10yrs old) and we had 22's for squirrels, but my Dad wanted me to go Deer hunting with him and 30-06's were the caliber to have. Boy, did I have to learn fast that ---"rifle needs to come up to you properly, NOT, you coming to the rifle". That rifle needs to be tight on shoulder, no matter what caliber, because it helps with steadiness and control.
